[Part 2] How to write Statement Of Purpose (SOP) and Personal Statement (PS) essays at once ?

Let’s take it easily.

Nowadays, Statement of purpose (SOP) and Personal Statement (PS) essays becomes are two of the mandatory requirements for admission from most of the colleges on the world. However, having to write both them at once seems to be a little bit confused for us.

Let’s answer these questions listed below before starting to write your SOP & PS essays.

Based on personal experience, you guys should start beginning with the Statement of purpose (SOP) essay first, then Personal statement (PS) essay later.

PERSONAL STATEMENT (PS)
As a picture describes who you are and your motivations

INTRODUCTION
– A hook (very important) from 1 to 3 sentences in order to keep readers continue reading whole essay
– For Personal Statement PS essay, your hook sentences should be related to your community making impressed your personality
– Please note that the contents must be explained in the Body part of your essay
Example:
From a woman growing up to a lower-income area in [your country] which has still existed prejudices about the limits of women’s abilities in society, especially in the field of science. I have been carrying with me an ambition to delve deeply into the field of [your course]. First to understand myself, understand the profession, and then to send a message to the women in my hometown that you can still participate in scientific fields as long as you want, the universe will help you.

BODY
Who are you ?
– Telling your impactful story you went through
– The way you overcame and the lesson you got from it
– You should show your positive personality matching to your chosen program and how can it positively effect/contribute to the community/ academic environment
Example:
– A short story about one prejudice about women’s intelligence in the academic competition held by your high school where you was un derrated by your classmates and even teachers that you were not enough level of smart to get its award compared to your boy classmate who also attended the same competition.
– The more they underrated you the more motivations you got from their sayings and then instead of depending on the teacher to give you homeworks, you focused on improving yourself through referring more knowledge from other resources
– The results you got after that process and when people tell you that you cannot get it, it means that is their limitation, it never is your limitation which can be applied on [your major]

What led you want to apply “this time” and “not another time” ?
– Please notice this question is different from the question in the part of Statement of purpose (SOP) outline.
– Reinforce your Statement of purpose (SOP) essay through telling about tendency/ urgency in [your major]
– How ready you are after preparing something for this time
Example:
– The number of patients with [your specialty] disease shows no signs of decreasing in your locality. Especially, when you saw many local people who didnot have enough budget for their treatment, they had to accept being tortured by the disease until their last breath
– A short Madarin/ English study trip that you actively prepared which could help you adapt quickly in the international study environment in the near future

IN CONCLUSION
– Thank the Admission Committee for reading your essay
– Recap the importance of this opportunity which would be offered by the Admission Committee for your vision mentioned in the Introduction

NOTE
Please notice these things below:
– Telling a impactful story (do not list events)
– Starting to write as soon as possible and return review them after 2 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months, 4 months … You would be seen big difference
– Do not feel shy to ask outside readers for reviewing and get feedbacks from them (contents/dictation) before submitting to the college since sometimes, we cannot realize our problems.
